Reducing deviant consumer behaviour with service robot guardians

چکیده
Purpose The purpose of this research is to understand whether service robots can safeguard servicescapes from deviant consumer behaviour. Using routine activity theory, examines increasing the perceived humanness reduces customer intentions commit behaviour and negative relationship mediated by empathy risk being caught. Design/methodology/approach Five hundred fifty-three US residents responded a hypothetical scenario that manipulated agent (from self-service technology, robot, human employee) across seven conditions measured likelihood behaviour, towards caught punished attitudes robots. Findings results indicate replacing agents with different types does inadvertently reduce perceptions capable guardianship (i.e. element deters potential offenders committing crimes) in servicescape creates allow customers perpetrate more Practical implications When investing technology such as robots, providers need consider unintended cost misbehaviour (specifically behaviour) their return-on-investment assessments optimise asset investment decisions. Originality/value Moving beyond on adoption use, consequences might arise when deploying technology-infused environment. Humanised offer than but do not replace employees preventing they remain deterring misbehaviour.

Human Robot Interaction in Guardians
There are different forms of human-robot interactions, allowing a team of humans and robots to take advantage of skills of each team member. A relatively new area of research considers interactions between human and a team of robots, called a swarm of robots. This paper discusses possible forms of interactions in swarm robotics within the Guardians project. The paper particularly addresses the ...

متن کاملEnhancing consumer behaviour with implementation intentions
stimuli and tasks it is known that verbal, visual and combined verbal-visual implementation intention formats are equally effective (e.g., Burkard, Rochat, & Van der Linden, 2013; McFarland & Glisky, 2012; Meeks & Marsh, 2010). However, in everyday life settings using richer stimuli (e.g., food products) implementation intentions effects can indeed be augmented by visualizing the plan contents ...

متن کاملGUARDIANS multi-robot team as a self-organising system
The GUARDIANS robot swarm is selforganising and can be seen as a hybrid of a (heterogeneous) swarm, a mobile ad-hoc network and an (evolving) topological map of the environment. We assume that robots cooperate in order to deploy themselves, search the area and construct a (online) map of the environment. We present a novel approach of distributing robots on site that takes advantage of a cooper...
